The new Harbor 30, W.D. Schock's newest addition to its fleet of
fine performance daysailers, took to the water for a fantastic day
of sailing which turned into an impromptu race practice.
Designers Steve and Tom Schock dub the yacht a "Daysailer Plus," merging
true cruising capability with daysailing features.
"We've combined traditional lines with nimble performance in a terrific
yacht that sailors will love for decades to come," Tom said.
The traditional lines belie modern features that simplify single-handed
sailing. There is a self-tacking jib on a proven Hoyt boom. The hidden
control lines lead to winch islands that are at arms length from the
pedestal wheel. The ingenious mainsheet system keeps the large cockpit
uncluttered. The result is a spacious haven without challenging obstacles
for sailors and their guests.
The Harbor 30 Daysailer Plus wraps simple, comfortable accommodations
into an interior of subtle curves, rich mahogany trim and modern surfaces
with a traditional feel. The Herreshoff style interior of white bulkheads
with varnished wood trim completes the understated elegance. The result
is a feeling of privacy and function which is unmatched in a yacht
of this size.
Below-deck features include berths for four adults, six-foot standing
headroom, a fully enclosed head with an artfully designed sink, a seaworthy
two-burner stove, along with hot and cold pressure water in both the
head and galley.
The high-performance underbody, spade rudder and 6'3" bulb keel provide
balance, speed and skipper-pleasing control even in the most demanding
conditions.
A bowsprit and asymmetric sail are easily added for exceptional sailing
performance.
Modern materials minimize maintenance; there is no external wood to
maintain or varnish. Blister-resistant vinylester resin is used in
the outer layers of the solid fiberglass hand laid up hull. Carbon
fiber reinforcements are installed in key areas. Extra strong chain
plates are made of rustproof high-tensile strength G10 epoxy laminate.
The Harbor 30 is a durable boat built for the long term.
A three-cylinder, 20-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine easily drives
the yacht above six knots.
